Summer Blues

A recurring theme on my blog: time is FLYING by! This month has involved lots of learning and exploring. Only bummer – that summer is almost over..

  • Continuing to apply to various jobs and interviewing. It’s always a good idea to keep up with interviewing skills. By applying to various jobs, it has given me an opportunity to learn about other organizations out there! Most of the jobs I’m applying to are part time to allow me to continue my clinical work and are typically with charitable/not-for-profits, an area of practice that I would love to explore.
  • Taking advantage of all the fun events happening in Vancouver/lower mainland of BC during this final summer month including the Celebration of Lights, free outdoor yoga at the New Westminster Pier, and the in-our-hood Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Festival.

  • Training in the Critical Care Units. I was trained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Acuity Unit (HAU) this past week and LOVED it! The complex patients and fast paced environment is one I thrive in and can’t wait to get more experience the next few weeks working on these units.
  • Putting more time into developing a private practice. I’ve had a decent number of individuals I know/work with ask if I have my own private practice/if I was willing to take them as a client to work on their nutrition goals. These requests have got me thinking to invest more time into developing my own private practice even if it’s just-for-fun right now/helping those few individuals who have reached out for me. Every opportunity that comes your way is a learning experience so I’m excited to start working on taking a few clients in the near future! I thank the Dietitian Support Groups on social media who have provided a TON of insight on their private practice expertise and I feel very lucky to have this support system exist!

What have you been doing to keep yourself busy this summer? Let me know in the comments!
